COVID-19 Re-Opening Protocols

July 5, 2020

As churches are beginning to reopen, there are a number of changes to consider for NOBF members prior to re-entering our sanctuary. Please take the time to carefully review this entire document as all members and their children will be responsible for adhering to these guidelines for everyone’s safety. This document was developed by our churches Leadership Team, which is comprised of myself, Denise Parker, our Deacons, church secretary, our treasurer and every person that is in a leadership position over one of our church ministries. Our leadership team met 4 times from April to June on conference calls to develop the document you are reading and reviewing. The following guidelines are what our ministry will be guided by in terms of complying with Spiritual Leadership and CDC standards and protocols.

  1. Prior to re-entering our sanctuary, I am asking every member of our ministry who can, to join with me in a Congregational Fast for 1 week prior to our re-opening the sanctuary. I am asking that we fast from 6am to 12 noon daily, beginning on Monday August 3, 2020 and ending on Sunday August 9, 2020. Our purposes for this fast are Thanksgiving, Healing, Protection and Praise/Worship to be on one accord in church unity. Please use the following Scriptures on each area as a guide during the week of fasting:

  • Thanksgiving - Psalms 7:17; Psalms 100:4-5; Psalms 35:18; Psalms 69:30; Psalms 95:1-3

  • Healing - Mark 9:23; Psalms 147:3; Luke 8:50; James 5:14-15; 2 Chron.7:14; Isaiah 53:5

  • Protection - Ephesians 6:11; Psalms 32:7; Deut. 31:6; Isaiah 54:17; Psalms 16:8

  • Praise/Worship - Ezra 3:11; Psalms 9:1; Isaiah 25:1; Psalm 150:6; Psalms 28:7

Let’s all come together to seek the Lord and grow closer to Him as he brings us back into our edifice.

  1. Every adult member and child entering the sanctuary must have a mask on. Everyone must also have their temperature taken and sign the Contact Tracing Log as per city and state mandates in the vestibule.

  2. Please be advised that ALL in-house church activities and ministries, as well as outside activities have been cancelled for the remainder of the calendar year 2020.

  3. We will continue Facebook Streaming of our Worship Service and Bible Study upon re-entering the sanctuary. NOTE: Bible Study will not be held in the sanctuary, only via Facebook until further notice.

  4. Communion - All communions will now be pre-packaged cups and wafers. All Deacon/Servers will wear masks and gloves for communion issuing. Please prepare for communion to take a little longer for those who may need assistance with their cups.

  5. No bulletins will be issued in order to minimize hand to hand contact and passage of germs.

  6. Collections - Offering envelopes will now be located in the vestibule as you enter the church. You are asked to get your Tithe/Pledge envelopes and fill them out and place them in the baskets on the table located in front of the double doors leading to the fellowship hall. All ushers are required to wear gloves and masks as well for the handling of envelopes and baskets.

  7. Music Ministry - Congregational songs will mostly be sung with the possibility of 2 to 3 maximum choir members for giving leadership with proper social distancing.

  8. Social Distancing Guidelines - Upon entering the sanctuary you are asked to please sit a minimum of 4 seats apart to achieve social distancing in the sanctuary. Families who were quarantined together in the same household can sit together. There is to be NO handshaking, hugging or kissing. SORRY! Hand sanitizer will be available for the membership upon entering the church in the vestibule, in the ladies and men’s restrooms and various other locations around the church.

  9. Our church will be professionally deep cleaned and sanitized prior to our occupancy. We have also worked to secure additional cleaning supplies and resources needed to effectively clean the church according to the CDC and state guidelines after services.

  10. Restroom Usage and Cleaning during Service- Parents are asked to accompany their young and pre-teen children to the restroom. Everyone who uses the restroom during service is asked to personally clean behind themselves and their children with the Clorox Wipes and Spray Disinfectant provide in the restrooms.

  11. Timeframe and Frequency for Church Re-opening- We are tentatively scheduled to return to our sanctuary on Sunday August 9, 2020, barring any city or state shutdown mandates. We will only have Sanctuary Worship 2 times per month on the 2nd Sunday (Communion) and the 4th Sunday. This is done to be on the side of caution in returning to a group setting in our services. We will continue using Facebook for the 1st, 3rd and 5th Sunday Services. This schedule for services will continue for at least 2 to 3 months in order to take it slowly and evaluate the process as we go. Bible Study will only be held on Facebook and not in the sanctuary in order to limit person to person contact and to limit the frequency of the facility cleaning.

Please take the time to read and review these protocol requirements prior to the re-entry date in August. If everyone in the ministry fully familiarizes themselves with these guidelines, it will assist us in smooth procedural activities. Thank you for your cooperation and I look forward to worshipping with you again in our sanctuary real soon!
